Case Study - Green destinations

In Brief:

The pandemic was all about pivoting, thinking on one’s feet and, most importantly, outside the box. Our partnership with Green Destinations, one of the leading sustainable tourism awards organizations, traditionally culminates in a series of films at Berlin’s annual ITB travel event. In 2020, at the height of the global lockdown, GLP and Green Destinations collaborated to create a virtual event, creating videos of 15 award winners, conducting virtual interviews and hosting the Awards ceremony. 

Our Solution:

As GLP had responded quickly to the pandemic by engaging with travel colleagues and friends in our #TourismStrong video series, we were able to quickly apply these skills and experience to this global virtual event. The project involved virtual interviewing, crowd-sourced footage procurement, thought leadership and video editing, to create a series of 15 sustainable tourism destination videos, as well as project managing the event itself. 

The videos were shown at the live virtual Green Destinations Story Awards event, with GLP’s founder, Rob Holmes, who has over twenty years’ experience in sustainable tourism, as host. Over a period of ten weeks, GLP strategized and road mapped the virtual event with Green Destinations, interviewing all the winners, collating footage and photography to create quality video content for each destination, and creating a series of written content on sustainable destinations, as well as a social media plan.  

We rose to the occasion and welcomed the opportunity to project manage and host an international virtual event, leading on all content creation throughout. As with all sustainable tourism videos, it was the winners and leaders in community-led, responsible and change-making tourism who inspired us to pivot and produce, bringing everyone together for a much-needed moment of celebration.
